2.4.3. J-Test - Test of Practical Japanese

The J-Test is a test aimed at learners of the Japanese language. Unlike the JLPT, which is focused on 'academic' Japanese, for university and further education, the J Test is more focused on the everyday, practical side of the language. The test consists of 6 levels, A to F, (with level A being the most difficult), and the test scores are graded from A to D).

In comparison, Level A of J-Test is far exceeds the difficulty of Level 1 of the JLPT (equivalent to a Grade B- in the J-Test). Those who can score a Grade A or A+ in this test are capable of becoming Japanese interpretors. People who take this test range from Japanese language students to those working in Japanese foreign embassies.

This test is held across Japan 5-6 times a year.

For more information on the J-Test, please refer to this website.
